Network

Our Network

We own and operate a carrier class gigabit BGP4 network which is has been built from the ground up using state of the art switches, routers and connections.

Our network spans multiple data centres for redundancy and resiliency. We operate our own private secure caged suite within the Redbus Interhouse Meridian Gate facility and we connect to a number of Tier-1 and Tier-2 providers such as Level(3), ClaraNet and others.Network Diagram - Click to Enlarge

Transit Providers

We have a dedicated fiber connection to Level(3) and ethernet connections to Claranet, Viatel and Easynet.  Each datacentre we have a presence in carries a complement of transit bandwidth which means that if one datacentre is down the the other would remain fully functional.

Peering

We currently peer at Xchangepoint, LoNAP (via Xchangepoint), RBIEX and plan to peer on Lipex and LINX very soon.  This means we have direct FastEthernet or Gigabit Ethernet connectivity to around 90 other UK ISPs and networks including Microsoft, JANET/UKERNA, The BBC, ntl, Nildram, NewNet, Globix, Zen Internet and lots of others.

We are proud to be members of the following peering points.

Xchangepoint Europe.
RBIEX - The Redbus Internet Exchange.
LoNAP (via Xchangepoint).
UK6x

We are will be joining other peering points during the course of the coming year.
Some providers prefer to use transit connections only, but unlike these purely transit only networks, we endeavour to actually connect to as many networks as possible in order to take packets as near to their destination as possible.

If we don't currently peer with your ISP, please let us know.  Additionally, please let your ISP know that you would like them to peer with us too.

RIPE NCCLocal Internet Registry (LIR)

We are a member of RIPE and a Local Internet Registry (LIR) which means that we are an organization that has the right to provide IP addresses to other carriers, ISPs and organisations.

Network Security

We filter all traffic coming in and out of our network for the security of our clients and to ensure maximum network resilience.  We also have anti-spoofing measures in place.

Internal Network

Our Network is built upon our gigabit backbone using multiple redundant switches and routers and leased dark fiber.  Internally the network is routed using OSPF/OSPF3 and our switches are meshed using Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol which means that there are always two or more paths to all parts of our network.  We are very serious about our network; so much so that we started a separate company, Secura Networks Ltd, to build and operate it for us.

IPv6 Enabled NetworkBuilt for the Future

The network was built from the ground up with IPv6 in mind and is fully IPv6 enabled.  We peer at IPv6 peering points such as UK6x, The Xchangepoint IPv6 peering LAN and the RBIEX IPv6 peering LAN.  All of our clients are able to take advantage of full IPv6 connectivity as we route a massive /48 of IPv6 (or /64) address to all servers.

What is Peering?

Peering is a way of bringing content closer to end users... for example if your website is hosted by us, and your customers ISP is Zen Internet, we connect directly to Zen so you can be sure your website will be directly accessible to your customer at the fastest possible speed.
